Town News
Message from the Mayor
As your Mayor, I want to welcome you to the official website of the Town of Six Mile, South Carolina. On behalf of myself, Town Council, and staff, our goal is to keep this website current, interactive and the “go to” current information site for our town.
We are a living and working community of approximately 759 residents. Despite changes, our small-town uniqueness remains unwavering. Community events, town projects and pride in our town and its quality of life bind our townsfolk together.
In Six Mile, we pride ourselves on our small-town atmosphere, values, community spirit, and civic consciousness. We stress civility.
We have multiple projects in process which is amazing for a town of our size. These include our Downtown Park site, our Ponderosa Park Recreation site, and Bryson Children's Nature Walk (a project for which our Town won a Municipal Achievement Award in July 2024). We may be small in Six Mile, but we think big. Despite an ambitious agenda, we maintain our financial integrity. We urge you to take advantage of our volunteer opportunities and get involved in Six Mile. We need volunteers.
Despite a size of only two square miles, our town is growing. Four recent additions have occurred to our downtown business district. Our downtown Farmer’s Market occurs on Tuesday afternoons during the market season. Our downtown businesses provide opportunities for fun, food, merchandise, and more.
Never hesitate to sit down for a chat with me any time. I'm excited about our town. I'm dependent on you, our citizens, to assist in a forward-thinking and progressive future for our town while simultaneously keeping Six Mile Six Mile. In Six Mile, contrary to today's world, may we always strive to "Brighten the Corner Where You Are" (check out the song and lyrics) in all our daily words and actions.
Kindest regards
James A. Atkinson
Mayor
